Gedanken und Impressionen aus einem Aufenthalt im Polder Gebiet um Boskop in den Niederlanden.
Holland, bekannt auch durch die Grachten und Poldern die sich über riesige Riedgebiete erstrecken. Landgewinnung und Wassermanagement. Ein Thema das die Menschen hier beherrschen und beschäftigt, für die Zukunft auch überlebensnotwendig.

An den Wasserläufen wachsen noch traditionell die Kopfweiden als Lieferant für die Ruten zum Flechten von Körben. Sie dienen zur Befestigung und als Windschutz, sind schnellwachsend und robust, können unzählige Male gestutzt werden und schlagen immer wieder aus.

Riedgras als nachwachsendes Dach-Baumaterial scheint wieder mehr zum Einsatz zu kommen auch bei Neubauten.

Erlen und Pappeln, ursprünglich zum Fertigen von Holzschuhen, säumen die Wege und warten nur darauf eine neue Bestimmung zu bekommen

Hier sehe ich ein gutes Beispiel für nachwachsenden Rohstoff um Pflanzenkohle und Energie zu erzeugen.

Die langezogenen Wiesen, getrennt durch Wassergräben, mit saftigem Gras für die Kühe und Schafe, bieten noch viel Raum um schnellwachsendes Holz nachhaltig zu erzeugen.

Ich könnte mir auch vorstellen, das durch die rasant wachsende vegetarische und vegane Ernährung die Viehwirtschaft deutlich zurück geht und hier neue Wege gegangen werden müssen.

Warum nicht die Produktion von Pflanzenkohle.
Auch das Gras könnte in Form von Heu als Grundlage für Pellets dienen, die dann zum Karbonisieren u/o Heizen eingesetzt werden können.
Auch denkbar wäre der Einsatz von gerollte Ballen die dann direkt in einer Pyrolyse Retorte zu Pflanzenkohle gewandelt werden könnte.

Vorteil: der Prozess der gepressten Ballen ist etabliert, sie sind normalerweise schon trocken und müssten nicht aufwändig in Pellets umgewandelt werden.

Metitron hat einen Ernter mit einer Pelletpresse kombiniert und kann so trockene Grasgewächse direkt auf dem Feld in Pellets umsetzen.

Im Gespräch mit einem Zierpflanzenhersteller

wurde auch das Thema Überproduktion der Saison angesprochen, große Mengen an Biomasse die entsorgt werden muss.

In diesem Fall Unmengen an Buchsbaum, wie im Beispiel der gefüllte Kontainer.
Besonders Pflanzen die sich zur Kompostierung nicht so gut eignen.
Ein weiteres aktuelles Thema der Holländischen Landwirte ist die Überdüngung und die neue schärfere Reglementierung für Nitrate im Grundwasser.

Warum gibt es einen Bauernstreik in Holland?
Die niederländische Regierung will den Ausstoß von Stickstoff bis 2030 landesweit im Durchschnitt um die Hälfte senken. Da ein großer Teil der Schadstoffe aus der Landwirtschaft stammt, soll der Viehbestand der Bauern drastisch reduziert werden. Aus Protest dagegen blockieren Bauern immer wieder Autobahnen. In sozialen Netzwerken wird jetzt behauptet, dabei kämen auch Panzer zum Einsatz.

An der Stelle könnte die Pflanzenkohle durch ihre Eigenschaft, Nitrat zu binden, einen positiven Eintrag leisten. Der oft sandige Boden kann Wasser und Nährstoffe nicht halten und so gelangen sie, durch Bewässerung und Regen, ins Grundwasser.
Nicht nur in Holland ein Thema.
Überdüngung zu sehen an den üppigen Algenteppichen auf den Kanälen.

Wichtig sind hier natürlich auch die Wasserspeicherfähigkeit der Pflanzenkohle und die Unterstützung beim Humusaufbau.
Bei richtiger Anwendung auch die Erzeugung von C-Senken Zertifikate.
Zu erwerben z.B. bei den DC DUTCH CARBONEERRS, CarbonFuture oder bei den „Kohlekumpels“ für Gemüseanbau sowie weiteren Anbieter sind auf dem Markt um Zertifikate anzubieten.

Es gibt Größen von 50 bis zu 2500 Liter Karbonisier Raum.

Vorgehensweise:

-Trockenes Holz sammeln und direkt Pflanzenkohle für erste Versuche herstellen.

-Vorhandene Weiden etc. schneiden und 1-2 Jahre zum Trocknen z.B. in Benjeshecke aufsetzen oder trocken lagern.

-Bäume und Hecken Pflanzen zum Ernten in 3-5 Jahren

Anmerkung für die Praxis:
Bei der Verwendung von Benjeshecken kann in Folge geschnitten und geerntet werden. Das Laub und kleine Zweige können entweder in die Kompostproduktion gehen oder man lässt sie an Ort und Stelle und sie bilden Humus und Gestrüpp für Lebewesen.
Großtechnisch wird das Verwenden von Hackschnitzeln oder Pellets sinnvoller sein.
In Kombination mit trocknen im Kontainer, durch Abwärme vom Pyrolyse Prozess und automatischer Zuführung und Entnahme.
Im Sommerbetrieb könnten, durch den Überschuss an Wärme, mehr Hackschnitzel und Pellet Material getrocknet werden um dann im Winterbetrieb mehr Abwärme zum Heizen zu haben.

Thoughts and impressions from a stay in the polder area around Boskop in the Netherlands
Holland, also known for the canals and polders that extend over huge Reed areas. Land reclamation, water management is an issue that dominates and concerns people here, also necessary for survival in the future.

On the waterway’s , the pollard / basket willow trees still traditionally grows as a supplier of the rods for weaving baskets. They are also used to secure and give stability to the river bank, also in use as wind breaker protection. Known as fast-growing and robust, can be trimmed countless times

Reed grass as a renewable roof building material seems to be used more again, even in new buildings.

Alder and poplar trees line the paths and are just waiting for a new use

Here I can see a good source of renewable raw materials to produce biochar and energy .

The long-drawn meadows, separated by ditches, with juicy grass for the cows and sheep, still offer plenty of space to sustainably produce fast-growing wood.

I could also imagine that due to the rapidly growing vegetarian and vegan diet, the livestock industry is declining significantly and new paths have to be taken here.

Why not the production of biochar.
The grass in the form of hay could also serve as a basis for pellets, which can then be used for carbonization and/or heating.
The use of rolled bales would also be conceivable, which could then be converted directly into biochar in a pyrolysis batch retort.
Advantage: the collecting and press process is established, they are usually already dry and do not have to be extensively converted into pellets.

Coupled with the countless greenhouses that are partly heated and the need for good soil, a good approach.

In conversation with an ornamental plant manufacturer

the topic of seasonal overproduction was also addressed, large quantities of biomass that must be disposed of.

In this case, tons of buxus plants, as in the example of the filled container.

Another current issue of Netherlands farmers is overfertilization with nitrate and the new strict regulation against high nitrates in groundwater.

Why is there a farmers‘ strike in Holland?
The Dutch government wants to reduce nitrogen emissions by an average of half nationwide by 2030. A large part of the pollutants come from agriculture, so farmers‘ livestock is to be drastically reduced. In protest against this, farmers repeatedly block motorways.

At this point, biochar could make a positive contribution due to its ability to bind nitrate. The often sandy soil cannot hold water and nutrients so they enter the groundwater through irrigation and rain.
Not only an issue in Holland.
Effects to be seen on the lush algae carpets on the canals.

Of course, the water storage capacity of the biochar and the support for humus building are also important here.
Possible also, with the right application, the generating of C-capture certificates.
Purchasable e.g. at the DUTCH CARBONEERRS, CarbonFuture in Germany and others offer this service on the market already.

There are sizes of 50-2500 liters of carbonizing space.

How to start biochar production and use of biomass as fuel:

– To start the process collect dry wood and produce biochar directly with e.g. a earth Kon-Tiki ore a small stainless steal retort.

– To go for the next year cut existing willow trees etc. and place them in Benjes hedges for 1-2 years to dry or store them dry.

– Plant trees and hedges for harvesting in 3-5 years

Note for practice:
When using Benjes hedges, material can be karbonisiert and simultan harvested and stored for the next year. The foliage and small branches can either go into compost production or they can be stay in place and they form humus and scrub for living beings.

On a large-scale point of view, the use of wood chips or pellets will make more sense.
In combination with drying in a container, through waste heat from the pyrolysis process and automatic supply and extraction.

In summer operation, due to the excess of heat, more wood chips or pellets material is dried and then has more waste heat for heating in winter operation.

Wie vermutet, hat sich die erste Büchse schon aufgelöst.
Hatte noch eine alte leere Farbdose.
Als Vorbereitung erst mal die alten Farbreste mit der Gasflamme entfernt, damit es beim ersten Einsatz nicht gleich die Bude verstinkt.

Aus einer Empfehlung heraus hab ich mir noch einen gebrauchten Spargeltopf besorgt. Der ist allerdings ein bisschen groß für meinen Kaminofen, aber eine gute Größe für meinen Kon-Tiki.
Den hatte ich in der ersten Runde mit Sägemehl gefüllt und war erschrocken über das Höllenfeuer im Ofen. Das war zu viel, hatte leichte Befürchtungen dem Ofen zu schädigen.

Die letzt Büchse (die 3.) hat sich jetzt auch verabschiedet, gut das die Heizsaison bald zu Ende geht.

Abschluss Experiment

Ist das nicht fantastisch wie die Natur Bilder erzeugt.

Beim Leeren vom Werkstatt Sauger habe ich noch einiges an Schleifstaub gefunden.
Das war noch ein Versuch wert, die kleine Büchse ordentlich gestopft und die Karbonisierung hat geklappt.

Als Ergebnis hatte ich einen „Kohlekuchen“. Das Sägemehl hat sich verbunden und eine leichte Poröse Masse gebildet, die konnte ich sogar vorsichtig mit dem Messer schneiden.
